Re-Setting Yourself After a Break

Image
On 1st Jun, 2023, I along with my two children were off to my hometown Berhampur. The occasion was, Thread Ceremony of our Son Suraj, which is a ritual amongst the brahmins in our region. The celebrations took place over 4 days from 9th Jun to 12th Jun. On 12th Jun over 400 guests (mostly the very close family members, relatives and friends along with their families) participated the event. The 10 karmas, which are the part of the rituals were conducted over the last two days of the event on 11th and 12th of Jun, six on day one and balance four on day two. Conducting a grand event like this, needed a lot of preparation, which actually began almost two months in advance and support and guidance from a lot of family members and relatives, vendors, service providers. In the process of conducting this event, both my wife and I had to give up our food habits, daily yoga habits etc. because there were only that much time and bandwidth available to conduct something of large scale at some poi...

A Note for the First Time Voters of India – About our Democracy.

Image
The term is derived from the  Greek dÄ“mokratia , which was coined from dÄ“mos (“people”) and kratos (“rule”) in the middle of the 5th century bce to denote the political systems then existing in some Greek city-states, notably Athens. Over the many centuries since then, the most important form of governance across the world in most of the countries have been some form of democratic government. Largely, the monarchy system and colonial system across the world were the forms of governance about 300 to 400 years back. Which have given way to formation of democratic system of governance across most part of the world. India has been independent and democratic republic for over 74 years, and over the years our democratic systems have weathered a lot of up and downs, but has remained a fairly stable democracy despite it diversities in so many ways, which is quite unique only to India. As Karnataka goes into polls today, there will be several lakhs of new voters, who will be voti...

Our Political System is designed to Augment Corruption

Image
Can our (Indian) political system transform into providing good governance and development rather than augmenting corruption? Political parties across the world in any democracy have a difficult job in hand. They have to win the next election at whatever cost. The incentive for the politician and political parties is to win the next election and cling on to that power till whatever time possible. In a democratic set up like India, this task is very difficult, because of the sheer size of the country, number of voters and all other complexity of region, religion, language, cast, etc. So, to win the next election the politicians have to be either very strong financially (such as business owners or backed financial by strong business houses) or a such a famous and honest leader that the voters will not think twice before choosing him/her for the next term. The second part is very difficult to achieve, because India as a country ranks very low on the Corruption Perception Index for dec...

Meaning & Means of Success

Image
Success is a relative term and never the final destination. Because whatever we achieve at a given point in time, there will be lot more which can be achieved (and probably have been achieved by others). So being successful is essentially on a journey of achieving small or big milestones and then pursue for the next one. Goals or Milestone are the results one wants to achieve, and systems & processes are the means to reach those goals or milestones. So, in the journey of achieving certain milestone or success, one should spend more time and effort in  designing the systems and processes  and spend less time thinking about the goal itself. A system once implemented that will help in small but continuous improvements and will eventually lead to the desired goal or milestone. Reaching a milestone is just a momentary feeling of happiness and sense of achievement, which is also very important, because each milestone, however small or big actually influences the brain to do more...

How will be new way of living by 2050 and beyond?

Image
As I begin this article, I must confess that, I am not a futurist, astrologist by training or by reputation. I am just an ordinary, logically thinking person of this earth and trying imagine the world 2050. The earth will be home for more 9 billion people by 2050. As per, 2022 World Population by Country (worldpopulationreview.com) , the world has already about 7.9 billion people already (which gives a live dashboard on its portal). In other words, 1.5 billion people more than the current level of population. Or we will be adding almost equivalent population of either China/India in the next 28 years. However, this growth is happening only in African continent, and part of the Asian Continent. The rest of world is going to see their population aging and they would be needing more and more immigrants, robots, automation and other technological advancement in healthcare to sustain themselves economically. 1.      Country boundaries will mean less and less ...

Avoid this Big Trap, when you are planning for the Mid-Career Switch

Image
After spending, 15 to 20 years in a corporate setting, the first and foremost thing which any professional gets attached is the steady stream of Salary at the end of every month or beginning of every month, depending on the organizational culture and system. The corporate life also provides the comforts of medical insurance for self and family, paid leaves, LTAs, Foreign trips (on the job), PF, Gratuity, etc. These are definitely very expensive components, which while on the job, we tend to take it for granted. So, if you have got used these comforts, without giving much attention or appreciation, then pause and calculate these benefits. If these benefits, mostly monetary and some emotional benefits (example, Foreign Trips) are so strong and important then listen to your inner call and stay put in the corporate world. Even if you have not been able to progress to the next higher level as per your own expectations. However, if your inner calling is so strong, that you want to move away ...
